About Georgia 2Gen Academy

About the Georgia 2Gen Academy

The Georgia 2Gen Academy is a year-long leadership development initiative designed to strengthen collaboration across Georgia’s child-serving agencies and improve outcomes for children and families through a two-generation (2Gen) approach. The Academy equips agency leaders and program managers with the knowledge, tools, and strategies needed to support both children and caregivers while advancing coordinated, family-centered systems of care across the state. Through ten training sessions conducted throughout the year, Academy participants develop leadership skills, build cross-agency partnerships, and learn to implement interagency strategies that promote long-term success for Georgia families.

About the Georgia Children’s Cabinet

The Georgia 2Gen Academy was established through a partnership between the Georgia Children’s Cabinet and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Created by Executive Order in 2019 by Governor Brian Kemp, the Georgia Children’s Cabinet was charged with supporting a sustainable and comprehensive system of education and care to best serve children and families across the state. The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) serves as the lead agency for the Cabinet. DECAL Commissioner Amy M. Jacobs serves as chair, and First Lady Marty Kemp serves as honorary chair. The Children’s Cabinet brings together state agencies, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and community partners to improve collaboration, identify gaps in services, and strengthen support systems for Georgia’s children and families. Through strategic partnerships and shared initiatives, the Cabinet works to expand access to high-quality early childhood education and build a stronger future workforce for Georgia.
